Take a look at what we've been up to!

We just wrapped a fun one on Queens Rd.

These condos needed a new mail center, and the challenge was making it fit with brick sidewalks that have been around a long time. So we matched the new brick to the old, tied it all together, and finished it off with a big, clean flagstone pad for the new mailboxes.

This one was all about function but we think it looks like beautiful too!

If you’ve got a spot that needs some love, whether it’s a walkway, a patio, or a common area for your HOA, we’d love to hear about it. Send us a message or visit queencityhardscapes.com!

Come along with us to Sherwood Forest, where our crew is hard at work bringing a bit more function and excitement to this beautiful naturally landscaped yard.

On the list: a curved concrete walkway built to last, a stepping stone path to their backyard oasis and decorative boulders that add instant natural character. Dreaming of an outdoor glow-up? You know who to call!

The wait is over!
Remember the surprise wall we found hiding behind the old one, plus all those boulders? Demo is finally done, and here’s the finished result.

The original railroad tie retaining wall was failing. Timber walls rot, warp, and lean over time, and this one was ready to give up. We replaced it with a Belgard Diamond Pro wall: solid engineered concrete block that interlocks for strength and stability.

From failing timbers to a wall built to last. This is what we love to do.

This Starmount backyard was ready for a fresh start!

A massive man-made pond, multiple greenhouses, failing retaining walls, dying trees, and years of pieced-together projects had left this property with very little usable space.

We stripped it back, brought in 150+ tons of dirt, reshaped the property, and turned a backyard full of obstacles, into something with real potential.

Phase One is officially complete — and now these homeowners have a clean, open canvas to turn their backyard into a space that they can enjoy!

This project was all about preparation and laying a solid foundation for more exciting things to follow! Contact us today to make your backyard dreams a reality!

Tree work hits different at the lake!

We opened up the view, cleaned up the canopy, and gave this property some breathing room—without taking away what makes the setting special.

Sometimes the best transformation isn’t adding something new…It’s uncovering what was already there.

Flagstone is one of those materials that never needs to prove itself. It looks good on day one, and continues looking fabulous years from now. We love the custom look as we piece it all together…no two projects ever turn out the same.

Here’s a recent install we completed for @promiseresourcenetwork in Charlotte. We are so grateful to be trusted with another project for an organization doing meaningful work in our community. Thank you PRN! We hope you are enjoying your beautiful new space.

Every project we take on starts the same way: listening.

Not every homeowner wants the same thing, and that’s exactly the point. Some clients care most about drainage. Some want more usable space. Some want privacy, low maintenance, or a place to entertain.

For this family, creating a healthy backyard environment for their kids, pets, and new landscape was an important part of the vision.

So while we handled the grading and planted new trees, we also incorporated Soil³ organic compost into the project — an enhancement they specifically wanted to help enrich the soil and support long-term health and growth throughout the space.

That’s what we love most about this work. Building outdoor spaces that reflect the people living in them — not cookie cutter projects, but thoughtful solutions tailored to what matters most to each family.

And of course, shout out to our nephew from Charleston who came to play this week! Today he was our lunch delivery assistant. He loves watching his uncle run excavators and skid steers like giant Tonka toys, and found that Carowinds is his new favorite place on earth!!!

We recently had the opportunity to build a new fence for Promise Resource Network, and it meant more to us than just another project.

Spending time on site, you quickly see the steady flow of people coming and going — individuals looking for support, connection, and a way forward. The work PRN is doing in Charlotte is powerful because it’s rooted in lived experience and the belief that recovery is possible when people are given the right support, opportunity, and community.

Being there, you can see firsthand how many lives they touch. Every day they show up for people who are navigating incredibly difficult moments, offering understanding, resources, and a path toward healing.

It was an honor for our team to contribute in a small way to a place that gives so much to our community. We’re grateful for the work PRN does and the dedication of the people behind it.

Thank you @promiseresourcenetwork Charlotte is stronger because of you.

To create a natural, living screen for our client, we planted a lush row of Chindo Viburnums—one of our go-to evergreen privacy plants for the Charlotte area.

Chindo Viburnum may technically be considered large evergreen shrubs, but here in the Carolinas they thrive and feel more like small trees. When mature, they can reach 25-30 feet tall and 8–12 feet wide, forming a dense, glossy green barrier that provides year-round privacy.

Why we love Chindo Viburnum for Charlotte landscapes:
• Evergreen coverage for all four seasons (yes—even winter)
• Fast-growing without being wild or high-maintenance
• Thick, full foliage that helps block neighboring views, street noise, and wind
• Well-suited to our climate, handling Charlotte’s heat, humidity, and clay-heavy soils
• Low-maintenance once established, with minimal pruning needed
• Fragrant white blooms in spring for a subtle seasonal bonus

As these Viburnums settle in, they’ll continue to fill out and thicken, creating a polished, natural privacy screen that feels intentional. It’s a beautiful alternative when you don’t need a fence, or the perfect complement to it, adding long-term value and curb appeal to this outdoor space.

We love finding the right plant choice—installed the right way—to completely transform how a yard feels.

This is what can happen when water lingers where it shouldn’t.

In this case, water was slowly collecting at the back of the home. There wasn’t a dramatic flood or a big warning moment — just steady moisture making its way toward the foundation and beginning to cause rot over time. That kind of damage often goes unnoticed until it becomes expensive.

We were able to step in early and redirect the water before it caused further issues. To do that, we added:

✔️ A flush-mount drain integrated into the brick patio to collect water before it reached the home
✔️ Two downspout drains to carry roof runoff safely away from the foundation

Water management is one of those things that’s easy to overlook, but it plays a huge role in protecting a home. If you’ve noticed any of the following, it may be worth paying attention:

💧 Water pooling near the foundation
💧 Downspouts releasing water right beside the house
💧 A patio that stays wet long after rain
💧 Mulch or soil that keeps washing away near the house

Water is persistent — it always finds the lowest point and the easiest path. Making small corrections to how it moves now can prevent much bigger problems down the road.

Sometimes it’s not about fixing a problem…
It’s about preventing the one you don’t see yet.

A little attention now can save a lot later — CALL TODAY!

For this project, we installed Belgard pavers to create a patio with movement, depth, and that perfect cobblestone feel—like it’s always belonged here… it brings a richness this backyard was missing.

Some driveways just do their job. This one shows off a little.

We took this worn, cramped driveway and turned it into a full statement piece, rebuilding and widening it with a paver retaining wall to provide extra parking space.

A new wooden privacy fence frames the top with a modern, look that adds a fresh touch.

Adding stamped concrete to the entrance of the driveway gives it character with texture and detail that immediately grabs your attention!

This is what happens when function and style finally agree with each other.

Are you looking for something to freshen up your space? We’re here to make it happen!

Our clients dreamed of a lush, green retreat—but their small, heavily shaded yard made it feel impossible. We loved their vision and jumped right in.
We began with thoughtful plant selection tailored to Charlotte’s Zone 8A, then layered in low-maintenance, always-green synthetic turf to keep things vibrant year-round—no mower, no worries!
A fresh concrete patio expanded their outdoor living space, while a border of classic American boxwoods added timeless structure along the pathway. We planted Lenten roses for a soft floral touch and set up landscape lighting to give the space a magical evening glow.
The true star of the show is the stunning Lace Leaf Japanese Maple, anchoring the space with texture and elegance.
From gravel to gorgeous — this space is proof that with the right vision, anything is possible! Ready for your own backyard transformation? Contact us today…Let’s make it happen.

At Queen City Hardscapes, we’re big fans of gravel driveways, and here’s why:

💰Affordable & Cost-Effective – Gravel is budget-friendly compared to asphalt or concrete, making it a great choice for long driveways or large properties.

🕰️ Durable & Long-Lasting – With proper maintenance, gravel driveways can last for decades. They handle heavy loads well and don’t crack like concrete!

💧Great Drainage – Say goodbye to puddles! Gravel allows water to drain naturally, reducing the risk of erosion and water damage.

🏡Customizable & Stylish – From classic pea gravel to crushed stone, there are endless options to match your home’s aesthetic.

♻️Eco-Friendly – Unlike paved surfaces, gravel driveways are permeable, helping groundwater recharge and reducing runoff.

Need a new driveway or want to refresh your existing one? We’ve got you covered! And if gravel is not your style…No problem! We can take a look at other options such as paver, concrete, and asphalt driveways to fit your style and needs. Let’s create the perfect entrance to your home! 📍 Contact us for a free consultation.
